This year I am happy because I have seen a small change in the world of Data & AI in terms of the women’s representation versus men. I remember posts of this blog from other years where we saw documentaries on this subject in which women rarely appeared, as it was the case of the documentary on IBM Watson: The smartest machine ever build. Over the last year, we women have been represented in more sector videos, for example, in this interesting documentary How artificial intelligence is changing our society.
We are currently immersed in this change, there are multidisciplinary teams of men and women, where everyone contributes equally. Although women still have a long way to go in this sector, we can already see the changes that many women´s professionals are hopeful about. I would like to mention some of the greatest women in this field who are helping to change this situation (this list is based in my opinion) :
- Joy Buolamwini: Founder, Algorithmic Justice League
- Cassie Kozyrkov, Chief Decision Scientist, Google
- Lucy Vasserman, Staff Software Engineer, Google
- Anusha Balakrishnan, Senior Researcher, Microsoft
- Charlie Edmunds, Senior Data Scientist, Microsoft
- Shubhi Tyagi, NLP Applied Scientist, Amazon Alexa
- Lois. K Smith, Senior Data Scientist, Facebook
- Ola Drozd, Machine Learning Engineer, Facebook
- Mansi Gupta, Machine Learning Engineer, Twitter
- Regina Barzilay, Faculty Lead & Professor, MIT
- Daniela Rus: Director, MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL)
- Rebekah Brown, Security Engineering & Architecture, Apple
- Sahar M., Senior Research Scientist in Cryptography, AI Research, JP Morgan Chase & Co
- Paula Long, CEO, Data Gravity
- Claire Delaunay: VP Engineering, NVIDIA
- Carme Artigas: Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence en Government of Spain
- Daphne Koller: CEO & Founder, insitro
- Fei-Fei Li: Professor of Computer Science, Stanford University
- Shivon Zilis: Board Member, OpenAI; Project Director, Neuralink
- Verónica Pascual: CEO ASTI Technologies Group

What can be done to increase the number of women in this field? I am not sure I know the answer here but I am curious about what thoughts others have on this topic.
